What is Body Dysmorphia?
Body Dysmorphia is where an individual is extremely obsessed about their body and has persistent and intrusive thoughts about their perceived flaws, causing severe distress and negative emotions.
They may feel insecure about their looks, they lack self confidence and feel that everyone who they know and love judges them, even though their loved ones accept them for who they are. They may even wonder, why their romantic partner may be with them in the first place…
All they see when they look in the mirror is how “ugly” they are, or how “fat” or how they don’t compare to any of their friends or celebrities on Instagram.
Social media only magnifies the shame that they feel about themselves, because this “comparisonitis” brings on the negative feelings of jealousy, envy and just feeling “not good enough.”
They hide themselves from the world. They cancel any plans that they have to go out and have fun and socialise with friends and family… because let’s face it… “it’s easier that way”.
So they stay home. They look in the mirror for the hundredth time, feeling disgust, self-hatred and loathing.
They cry in private, because they are too ashamed to tell anyone. They feel angry, trapped and alone… and they see no way out.
So if you can relate, I want you to know that there is a way out. There is a way where you can feel self-love, confidence and self-acceptance again. There is a way to feel normal in your own skin. Like you belong in your own body.
Let me show you how….
